| MASTERS PROGRAMME IN ART THERAPY, 60 ECTS, Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation, Umeå University. AIM The programme aims to enable graduates to practise art therapy in the context of therapeutic relationships. This is a professionally-oriented higher degree on advanced level aimed at graduates working in health care, social work or special education. COURSE STRUCTURE The course comprises 60 ECTS and is organized as a distance learning programme with a modified study tempo. Teaching is scheduled 2-3 days every fifth week and during four residential weeks. Guidelines for each course module, aims, teaching and learning methods, and assessment procedures are detailed in study guides. Course meetings and lectures are held at the University of Umeå. The residential courses takes place in summer and located outside Umeå. The programme consists of theoretical sections, experiential workshops and applications in the student's own client work. The theoretical sections are: the role of art and the visual image in society; the therapeutic relationship in art therapy; the theory and methodology of art therapy. The programme includes personal art work, art therapy workshops as well as supervised client work. An individual Master thesis is produced during the second year of study. A wide range of visiting lecturers experienced in art psychotherapy and or in related fields are engaged in the course. COURSE OVERVIEW Year 1. Studying Art Therapy at Umeå University requires understanding of the Swedish language.
