The Art Therapy Association of Nothern Sweden – BIN (Bildterapiföreningen I Norrland), was formed in Umeå 1992.Since 2007 BIN is part of THE SWEDISH NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ART THERAPISTS, SRBT

BIN:s purpose is to promote, communicate and develop the field of art therapy in nothern Sweden. The Association also provides a forum for exchange of professional experience and knowledge.

BIN provides information about art therapy groups, supervision and training. It also arranges work shops, seminars, lectures, and supports development and research in the field.

Professionals using art in therapeutic work, who are willing to work for the implementation of above mentioned purpose are welcome to apply for membership in BIN.

BIN has actively worked for the establishment of a professional art therapy training at university level. Since 1997 Umeå University offers a 40 credits University Diploma course in Art Therapy (equivalent to 60 ECTS), organized as a part-time, distance learning programme. The training provides a thorough grounding in the theory and practise of art therapy – prevention, therapy and rehabilitation – in different settings. The theoretical orientation is eclectic, and a variety of approaches to art therapy are critically reviewed and evaluated.
